Nursery Rhymes

There are some many nursery rhymes out there. I remember several:

“Rock a bye, baby, in the tree top. When the wind blows, the cradle will rock.

And of course,

“Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee, Lord, my soul to keep.

One that is especially popular now-a-days”

“Good night, sleep tight, Don’t let the bedbugs bite,
Wake up bright in the morning light
To do what’s right with all your might.”

The scary thing is that this last one is legitimate! Bed bug numbers are on the rise. They are not just in developing countries or impovrished neighborhoods, they are everywhere it seems. You want to make sure and protect your little ones (and yourself) from these vicious creatures.

The most important thing is to know where the mattresses in your home are from. It is best to buy new mattresses. You will not have to worry about bed bugs with these. Somina products are the top of the line! They are all-natural memory foam, made from soy-bean oil. The foam breathes with your skin and does not get hot and sticky like petroleum based foams do.  Made from lyocell, kapok, and elastic, the cover is designed to compliment the foam. Lyocell and elastic are natural products so you do not have to worry about sleeping on synthetic fibers. Kapok is a naturally bitter fruit that, when used in material, repels spiders, mites, fungus and such!

But if you choose to buy a gently used mattress for budgetry reasons or otherwise, be sure you purchase a mattress encasement. Protect-A-Bed’s encasements are designed to keep anything and everything that is already in the mattress there. They have a Bug Lock secure seal on the zipper. Be sure that you get an encasement, not just a cover. You want the entire mattress enclosed.

Nursery rhymes are supposed to ease your child into sleep, not stir up fears in the parent’s mind. Put those fears to bed by taking the precautions listed above.

Somina Mattresses

Somina Mattresses are made from visco-elastic foam. You have no doubt heard of it by this name or being called memory foam. This type of foam was created by NASA to use in the seats astronauts travel in while being rocketed into space and returning there from. It contours to whatever presses against it - very cool stuff. That was 20 years ago; a product cannot stay current with technology and consumer demands without evolving, yet this area has not been addressed… until now.

Green bedding is a priority for consumers who are ecologically conscience and aware. That is where Somina comes in: it is the organic option for green mattresses. Instead of using petroleum (which is used to create the vast majority of memory foam mattresses on the market), Somina products are made from soy bean oil. Along with being a renewable source, they go a step further and use soy beans that are free from gene manipulation.

Soy bean oil has other advantages. First, it does not have the odor that is associated with petrol. When your mattress arrives, you will not have to open every window in your house to get rid of the smell like with other memory foam products. Moreover, this foam breathes. This means, instead of having the consistency of ear plugs (which don’t let anything through); they are more like your skin - with small openings. This characteristic will not trap in heat and moisture creating a more comfortable sleep climate.

Memory foam, without question, provides outstanding support, eliminates pressure point created while sleeping on a traditional mattress, and is incredibly comfortable. Somina was invented for beds not rockets. It is designed to continually conform to your sleeping position, with a quicker recovery time than petroleum based foam. In other words, when you roll over, the mattress will spring back up as you move. No valleys will be left in your void - they fill in almost immediately.

Somina mattresses are on the cutting edge of sleep technology. Until you sleep on one, you will not understand how different it is from the other visco-elastic mattresses on the market. Trust me.

Rest Your Head on a Somina Pillow

Every Somina pillow is contoured to provide support for your neck and head while you sleep. They are available in four different sizes, which is fantastic because we each have different proportions.

Pillows, including the Somina pillow, never crossed my mind until recently. It always took at least an hour to get my neck feeling good each morning and a good thirty minutes to get comfortable at night. Then I came across Somina products at work and was intrigued by how much my boss loved her Somina mattress and pillow. I decided to try the various sizes and got a medium. (Medium and Large are the most common sizes used.) I have been amazed at how attached I am to my Somina pillow. Before getting this pillow, I would just buy pillows on sale and replace them annually. Now, I travel with my pillow. My head and neck are immediately comfortable when I lay down and mornings are great!

Somina products are organic memory foam. I did not realize how important organic is until I realized that I could breathe better after I started sleeping on mine. Since they are made from soy bean oil instead of petroleum, they do not have that odor that comes from most memory foam products on the market. Also the cover is washable – so just unzip it, throw it in the washer and dryer, and you are good to go.

Pillow sizes are easy to decipher. Here is the breakdown: Small is ideal for children and adults under 5’3”. Medium and large fit most adults. The think to consider is your shoulder width and neck length. If you have broad shoulders go with a Large. If your shoulders are average, go with medium. Extra Large is best for adults over 6’3”.
